Thomas Monath, M.D. - Partner, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers
Dr. Monath is a Partner, Pandemic and Biodefense Fund, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. He is also Adjunct Professor, Harvard School of Public Health. Between 1992 and 2006, Dr Monath was Chief Scientific Officer and an Executive Director, Acambis (a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company) where he directed R&D on dengue, West Nile, Japanese encephalitis, yellow fever, Clostridium difficile, and smallpox vaccines for defense against bioterrorism. Monath received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and M.D. from Harvard Medical School and trained in internal medicine at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston. COL Monath retired from the US Army in 1992 after 24 years in the uniformed services. Between 1973-1988, he was Director, Division of Vector-Borne Viral Diseases, Centers for Disease Control, Fort Collins CO and from 1989-92 Chief, Virology Division, US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID). He is on the editorial board of 5 scientific journals. He received the Nathanial A. Young Award (1984), the Richard M. Taylor Award (1996), and the Walter Reed Medal (2002) from the American Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene and was President of that Society (2004-05). He has served on numerous government and international committees on infectious diseases, biosecurity, World Health Organization expert committees and the National Vaccines Advisory Committee (USA). Dr. Monath has published over 340 papers and edited 6 books on the epidemiology, immunology and pathogenesis of viruses and on vaccine development.



David Thompson - Partner, VantagePoint Venture Partners
David joined VantagePoint as a Venture Partner as part of its Healthcare Group in 2006. Through a successful 30-year career at Eli Lilly and its affiliates, he most recently served as vice president of corporate strategy, business development, corporate finance and investment banking, and leading the corporate venture group and the alliance management team. Dave joined Eli Lilly in 1971, and throughout the 1970's held numerous positions in sales, marketing research, sales management, and new product planning. In 1982, he became director of corporate new product planning and licensing. He was named president and general manager of Eli Lilly Canada, a Lilly affiliate, in November 1985 and president/CEO of IVAC Corporation, a medical device subsidiary in December 1986. He served as vice president of pharmaceutical product management and licensing from 1988-1992, and in 1992 was named vice president of corporate business development for Eli Lilly. He is a graduate of Michigan State University (BS, MBA).



Scot Galliher - SG Capital
Scot is a founding investor in Xcellerex. He has spent 25 years working with high growth companies in the financial services industry. Most recently he advised J. Joe Ricketts, Chairman of Ameritrade, on the $3.5 billion merger of Ameritrade and TD Waterhouse and the purchase of a minority stake in Ameritrade by TD Bank. Previously Mr. Galliher was a senior executive at Shinsei Bank in Japan in charge of Electronic Commerce and a partner at Conning Capital Partners, a mid-sized venture capital firm investing $550 million in high growth financial services companies. Prior to that Scot co-founded the Financial Institutions Technology Group at Goldman Sachs where he specialized in online banks, brokerages and electronic exchanges and worked on approximately $3 billion in mergers, IPO's, and debt transactions.



Parrish M. Galliher - Founder & Chief Technology Officer
Mr. Galliher earned his BA in Biology at Boston University (1975). After 3 years as an EIT at Dynatech R/D Corp., he began graduate studies at MIT and earned his MS in Biochemical Engineering. Mr. Galliher joined Biogen, Inc. in 1981 where he was responsible for design, commissioning and management of Biogen’s first biomanufacturing facility. He held various management positions in Process Development, Engineering and Clinical Manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals using bacteria, yeast and mammalian cells. As Director of Process Engineering, he led the team responsible for startup, initial validation and commissioning of Biogen’s Avonex® manufacturing facility licensed by the FDA in 1996. Mr. Galliher joined Alpha-Beta Technology (ABT) in January of 1994 as Director of Manufacturing Development and was promoted to Vice President in 1995. He led the team responsible for technology transfer, startup, validation, and commissioning of ABT’s biopharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Smithfield , RI . and was appointed Vice President of Operations and General Manager in 1997. Mr. Galliher joined LeukoSite, Inc. in 1999 as Vice President of Biologics Manufacturing. After Millennium Pharmaceuticals acquired LeukoSite later that year, Mr. Galliher managed Millennium’s worldwide biologics manufacturing operations, including leadership of the CMC Team that contributed to FDA licensure of CAMPATH® monoclonal antibody in 2001. He also led the Manufacturing Productivity Improvement program which enabled high speed development of Millennium’s anti-CCR-2 Mab for clinical trials. Mr. Galliher founded Xcellerex in December 2002.



Joseph Zakrzewski - Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Zakrzewski is currently the Chief Executive Officer and director of Xcellerex, a privately held company focusing on commercializing its proprietary next generation manufacturing technology for biotherapeutics and vaccines. Mr. Zakrzewski recently served as the Chief Operating Officer of Reliant Pharmaceuticals, a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on cardiovascular drugs from 2005 through the first quarter of 2007. Mr. Zakrzewski had responsibility for the company’s pharmaceutical operations including, R&D, business development, supply chain/manufacturing, quality, IT, and compliance. From 1988 to 2004, Mr. Zakrzewski served in a variety of executive level capacities at Eli Lilly & Company including R&D, manufacturing, finance and business development. His most recent position was Vice President, Corporate Business Development, where he had global responsibility for all business development activities on a global basis. Mr. Zakrzewski received a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1986; an MS in Biochemical Engineering from Drexel University in 1988, and received an MBA in Finance in 1992 from Indiana University. In addition to his role on the Xcellerex board of directors, Mr. Zakrzewski also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Licensing Executive Society (LES), Arius Research, and DOV Pharmaceutical.
